If you wish to apply for an Ocean Lifeguard position, you should complete a City Application for Employment and submit it to the Human Resources Division no later than 5:00 PM on the posted closing date. Additionally, you should comply with the testing instructions outlined on the attached sheet.
The City of Boca Raton will be administering a swimming test for Ocean Lifeguards on Wednesdays 8 AM at Ocean Rescue Headquarters. A copy of the test outline is attached for your information. Please bring a swimsuit, goggles, a towel, and original required certifications on the test date. If the weather is inclement, the test may be rescheduled.
The purpose of the test is to fill our current vacancies and to establish a list of qualified candidates for future openings.
PLEASE NOTE: THE VISION REQUIREMENTS ARE 20/30 CORRECTED, EACH EYE.
THE OCEAN LIFEGUARD TEST:
Applicant must be able to pass, in order of succession, each section of the test. If the applicant fails a section, that will disallow the applicant to continue the test, and will be disqualifed at that point. The test consists of the following:
- 500 meter swim in the ocean in 10 minutes or less.
- Run 200 yards down beach, swim one hundred yards out to a submerged victim and cross chest him/her back to shore, then perform packstrap carry to high tide line.
- Demonstrate CPR and choking skills.
