DESCRIPTION/MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Performs responsible protective service work in ocean rescue operations in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
- Observes beach and ocean from tower for unusual and/or unsafe conditions and activities.
- Signals boaters, surfers and jet skiers to stay out of safe swimming areas.
- Maintains an awareness of life-threatening situations.
- Patrols beach on foot and warns beach patrons of dangerous conditions and situations.
- Carries rescue boards, oxygen equipment and first aid kits to and from the beach.
- Treats beach patrons for minor first-aid injuries.
- General knowledge of the laws, ordinances and policies related to emergency services in ocean rescue.
- Must be able to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Must pass annual requalification tests.
- Must have a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Must have 20/30 corrected vision in both eyes.
- Must have lifeguard experience in one of the following:
- United States Lifesaving Association (Open Water Card);
- American Red Cross (Lifeguarding Today Card);
- YMCA (Lifeguard Training Card); or
- Past lifeguarding experience.
- Must possess Red Cross CPR for the professional rescuer, or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
- Must possess Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety or D.O.T. First Responder. CERTIFICATIONS MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION.
Tests will be given one Wednesday a month 8AM Ocean Rescue Headquaters (3939 N. Ocean Blvd.), Approximately four (4) days per week, must be willing to work all Saturdays, Sundays, and Hoilidays eight (8) hours per day.
