Inspections:
Fire Safety InspectionThe division consists of one Assistant Chief, five Fire Lieutenants, two Fire Prevention Inspectors, one-permit specialist and one secretary. The division performs an average of 6,000 fire safety inspections annually. They consist of existing facility inspections such as theaters, hospitals, nursing homes, restaurants, hotels, and apartments. The division performs new occupational license inspections for individuals opening new Businesses. New construction inspections are the largest part of an inspector’s day. These inspections consist of sprinkler, fire alarms, natural and LP gas insulations, generators, fire pumps, elevators, fire hood suppression systems, and several specialty inspections.
Plan Review and Permitting :
Plan ReviewFire plan review has two full time plan reviewers and one permit specialist. The staff in fire plan review is responsible for the review of all building plans including new and existing construction with-in the city limits of Boca Raton. They review an average of 2500 plans per year. The division also issues over 1200 annual fire alarm permits per year.

Fire Investigation The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms assists specially trained personnel within the Fire & Life Safety Division in investigating the cause of many fires. The department also has a K-9 accelerant detection unit who assists in detection of arson fires.The division also responds to complaints related to fire safety violations.
