Volunteering is at the heart of citizen action. Collectively, citizens can serve their communities and achieve goals that alone, cannot be accomplished. In the City of Boca Raton, populated by approximately 85,000 residents and encompassing a mere 29.63 square miles, over 800 volunteers are found greeting visitors; working the switchboard at City Hall; creating databases; setting up filing systems; tutoring those learning or improving their English skills; scheduling tee times at city golf courses; helping counselors run summer camp; visiting the elderly; assisting the Police keep the community safe, learning emergency response procedures; tutoring youth; and lending their organizational and clerical skills to many city departments.
