Abandoned, Inoperable, or Wrecked Vehicles           (561) 338-1333
Motor vehicles abandoned on City right-of-way should be reported to the above number.  Parking  in the swale area is permitted for a period not to exceed 72 hours, but prohibited if no parking signs are posted.  After 72 hours, the vehicle will be classified as abandoned.  If the property owner or the vehicle owner fails to comply with the notice for removal, the City has the right to take possession of the vehicle and remove it from the property.  Either the property owner or the vehicle owner, or both, shall be responsible for the expenses incurred.  Wrecked or inoperable vehicles must be removed from a residence within 72 hours.  A vehicle without a license plate is classified as an inoperable vehicle.  A vehicle with a flat tire is not classified as an inoperable vehicle.

Registered voters who, for a valid reason, are unable to go to the polls on election day may request an absentee ballot.  Ballots must be received by the Supervisor of Elections before 7:00 p.m. of election day.  An absentee ballot and further information, including residency requirements, may be obtained by calling or writing the Supervisor of Elections Office at 301 N. Olive Avenue, Room 105, West Palm Beach, FL 33401-4795, or in person at the Olive Avenue office or the South County Courthouse, 345 South Congress Avenue, Delray Beach (276-1226).

Copies of accident and offense reports of incidents that have occurred within the City limits may be obtained from the Police Services Department for a nominal charge.

Ad Valorem Taxes          (561) 276-1250
The City of Boca Raton taxes property owners based upon the assessed value of their property.  The Palm Beach County Property Appraiser sets the assessed value of the property and certifies the tax roll to the City.  The City then sets the millage rate at which the property owners are taxed.  Each mill generates $1 of tax revenue for every $1,000 of taxable property value (assessed value less exemptions).  Call the Property Appraiser's Office with questions about your assessed or taxable value.  See:  Tax Collector

Community education programs at several City schools offer adult education classes on a variety of topics.  For further information contact the Palm Beach County School Board, 3312 Forest Hill Boulevard, West Palm Beach, FL 33406. GED classes are held in cooperation with Boca Raton Community High School at the Count de Hoernle Train  Depot, weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Recreation Services Department assists with the Before/After School Program in Boca Raton's elementary schools.  Call the Palm Beach County Board of Education at the above number, or the individual school, for additional information.

Agendas are prepared and/or distributed by the City Clerk's office.  Council and Community Redevelopment Agency agendas are available the Friday preceding a scheduled meeting and can be obtained in the main lobby of City Hall.  Board and committee agendas may be requested at the City Clerk's office.  See:  County Commission Meeting Agendas

Alarm Permits
It is unlawful, with the exception of a single-family residence, for any person to install or maintain a fire alarm in operational order without a fire alarm permit.  Permits must be renewed annually and issuance is subject to compliance with fire alarm code standards.

Alarm Violations
There is no charge to property owners for the first two false police or fire alarms in each fiscal year.  Property owners are then responsible for the costs incurred in responding to additional alarms.

Animals
  • Adoption/Redemption          (561) 482-8110 
    On July 23, 2001 the City of Boca Raton turned over the Operation of the Lullis M. Ritter Animal Shelter, located at 21287 Boca Rio Road, to the Tri County Humane Society. Tri County will continue to provide housing and care for stray and unwanted household pets. Animals are available for adoption and a pet cemetery is also maintained on the premises.   • Animal Bites          (561) 233-1200
    The County's Animal Care & Control Division must be notified in instances of animal bites.  The Health Unit will require unvaccinated animals to be quarantined at the owner's expense for rabies observation.

  • Leash Law
    Any dog or cat running at large, i.e. off the premises of the owner and not constrained by leash, cord or similar device, shall be declared a public nuisance.  Owners of at-large animals will be responsible for payment of costs incurred for impounding and subject to fines.  Owners are responsible for removing defecation when walking their animals. 

  • On Public Beaches/Or In Parks
    It is unlawful to allow animals, by intent or neglect, to go on public beaches, whether or not constrained by a leash or similar device.

  • Ownership Limitations
    The total number of dogs and/or cats allowed at one residence are limited to a total of four (4) unless there is an escape proof fence installed.  If such fence is provided, the total number allowed is six (6).  If a dog or cat has puppies or kittens, the total number of animals may exceed the limitations above until the pups and/or kittens are six (6) months of age.

    The City encourages pet owners to do their part in controlling the pet population by having their animals spayed or neutered.  Palm Beach County sponsors a mobile clinic to provide sterilization at a reduced cost for those in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.  Call for additional information.
Athletics
