M. J. Mike Arts was elected to the Boca Raton City Council in March 2006, without opposition, to a three year term. Councilman Arts served as the President and CEO of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber for 20 years, retiring on November 1, 2006.
Prior to the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, Councilman Arts served as the President of the Sioux City, Iowa Chamber of Commerce, Executive Vice President of the Carroll, Iowa Chamber of Commerce and as Area Manager for the Northwester Bell Telephone Company in Iowa. Mr. Arts also owned and operated an insurance and real estate firm and a motel in Iowa.
Councilman Arts’ current affiliations include; Board of Directors of the Palm Beach County League of Cities, Member of the Palm Beach Metropolitan Planning Organization, Past Chairman and current member of the Board of the Florida Atlantic Research and Development Authority.

Councilman Arts’ previously served at the Founding Chairman of the Palm Beach County Education Commission, Past President of the Palm Beach County Business Alliance, Past President of the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals, a member of the Florida Chamber Board of Governors and as a member of the FAU School of Business Advisory Board.
Councilman Arts and his wife Cathy reside in Boca Raton and have two children and four grandchildren.
