Council Member Bill Hager was elected to the Boca Raton City Council in March 2002, and began serving his first two-year term in April 2002. He was re-elected to serve a second two year term beginning in April 2004..

Council Member Hager has previously held statewide political offices as Commissioner of Insurance, Assistant Attorney General and First Deputy Insurance Commissioner in Iowa. He has also served as Administrative Assistant to a United States Congressman in Washington.

Council Member Hager has exercised a keen interest and oversight of the City’s financial position including its pension programs and annual budget. He is a strong advocate of “best practices” throughout Boca Raton’s City operations and has been a demanding inquirer of
developer’s various proposals to help effectively manage redevelopment. He has built a strong working relationship with our Police and Firefighters and Paramedics, and has also been focused on increasing educational opportunities for our children from pre-school through
advanced studies at our outstanding local universities.

A resident of Boca Raton for over a decade, Council Member Hager is an active member of our community. He is well known for his extensive track record of community and public service, including serving as Chairman of the Palm Beach County United Way Fund Raising Committee; as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Conference of Christians and Jews, South Florida; as a member of the Board and past Vice Chairman of the Board, Boca Raton Community Hospital; as Chairman of the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce; as Board Member, and Chairman of the Florida Atlantic University’s College of Business Executive Advisory Board
and as Chairman of the March of Dimes Walk America Committee. In addition, he and his wife Beth have chaired major fundraising events for the Boca Raton Community Hospital, the American Cancer Society, the Boca Raton Historical Society, and the American Heart Association

Council Member Hager holds a B.A. degree in Mathematics, a M.Ed. in Educational Psychology and a Law Degree from the University of Illinois. He serves as Chief Executive Officer of Insurance Metrics Corporation in Boca Raton. Mr. Hager is a Certified Reinsurance Arbitrator, a member of the American Bar Association and admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.

He was previously President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Council on compensation Insurance (NCCI) from 1990 to 1998. Under Mr. Hager's leadership, NCCI had annual revenues approaching $150 million and employed 1,000 people located in 20 offices nationwide.

Council Member Hager has been the recipient of a number of awards including the Silver Medallion Award of the National Conference of Christians and Jews (awarded for ecumenical work in the community between all ethnic and religious groups), the Sun Sentinel’s Excalibur Award for Business Leaders in South Florida (awarded for excellent business practices), and was named one of 10 leading men in Palm Beach County by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Bill and his wife Beth have been married for 25 years and are parents of two teenage daughters. Beth is an assistant professor of nursing at Florida Atlantic University. They are members of First Presbyterian Church, Delray Beach where Bill teaches Sunday School and also serves as an Elder.
